Mark

The bell above the diner door jingled, announcing my arrival, and I plastered on my most cheerful smile. "Morning, everyone!" I chirped, heading straight for the coffee machine. "Morning, sunshine," chirped back Brenda, the head waitress, her smile genuine. But from the corner booth, I felt the familiar sting of his glare. Mark. Tall, brooding, and perpetually scowling, he was my coworker, and as far as I could tell, my personal nemesis. I'd only been working at Rosie's Diner for a month, but Mark had made it clear from day one that he wasn't a fan. Whether it was rolling his eyes when I accidentally dropped a plate, or sighing dramatically when I asked a question, he seemed determined to make my life miserable. I couldn't figure out what I'd done to offend him, but I was starting to dread every shift we worked together. As I poured my coffee, I couldn't help but wonder what I'd done to earn his ire.
