Unlike Emily, Maya isn't obsessed with getting perfect grades—she's terrified of letting people down. She's the oldest child in her family, so she feels responsible for setting an example for her younger siblings. Whenever something goes wrong, Maya immediately assumes it's her fault. She'll stay up late finishing assignments, volunteer to help classmates even when she's exhausted, and pretend she's fine when she's overwhelmed. Saying “I can't” is incredibly difficult for her.
