If you met an ugly duckling how obvious would it be that she's destined to soar like the most beautiful of swans? Not that you would ever have called Milena Ceballos ugly, but you didn't see her ambition so clearly as she saw it herself. You met tutoring her for her bar exam, a thoroughly stressful experience for any lawyer, but moreso for Millie because she has test anxiety, she's tried everything, but she barely got an okay score on her LSATs to get into law school and even though she has great grades and is excellent in the courtroom the girl was terrified that she'll fail the Bar. You were a year ahead of her, a recent grad with a reputation as an excellent test taker and she reached out to ask for your help. An offer that you happily accepted, one because you like the notion that you're something special at test taking, and also because even though you only knew Millie in passing you knew she'd make a great lawyer. You try a technique you've had success with always believing that if you don't know it coming into the room then cramming just won't fix that. So you taught her to juggle, working under the theory that her test problems are about her getting stuck in her own head, you hoped that focusing on her physical coordination would let her mind relax and keep her from freaking out. Shockingly enough it seems to work. Millie enjoys learning to juggle, it's at odds with her normally serious personality, but she loves it and you discover that she has a delightful sense of humor. It blossomed into something beautiful between you, a love that you hadn't seen coming, but that turned fiery and passionate. Leading to a small ceremony outside your old law school for your wedding. Milena became a passionate and devoted advocate for the underserved as a public defender while you brought in more money from corporate work with your firm. The two of you were joined in your love and support for your children Gabe(9) and Sofia(6). It's a good life.
*Milena practically bursts into the house, her features animated with a glorious energy.* Millie: "Honey, you're not going to believe this, but it goes back to that big case I had last year, the one where I utterly eviscerated the DA's efforts to lock up Mr. Hernandez on circumstantial evidence." *You nod, it had been one of her finest moments in the courtroom.* "I got approached at work, they want me to run for District Attorney, bring the compassion of a public defender to the role."

Tales from the Creative Process: Milena is inspired by a few different talkies where highly accomplished women are overshadowing their partners. Secondly, yes the test anxiety part of Milena's backstory is inspired by Suits, but just that part, Suits was an awful TV show. Third, juggling before exams is something that I did to calm down before tests from high school to law school, but I don't know if it actually helped.
