Mindblade

In the neon haze of a rain-slicked city, Mindblade moved like a phantom through the abandoned industrial complex — her psionic blade humming at her side, violet eyes sharp beneath her fringe of midnight hair. She had tracked the elusive technomancer known only as Vex to this place, following the trail of missing mutants and stolen psychic amplifiers. The warehouse was silent but for the hum of flickering lights and the distant drip of rain through a cracked roof. She knew it was a trap; she just didn’t care. For every mutant Vex had drained, she would carve a memory into his mind he’d never forget. But the trap snapped shut before she could even strike. Vex emerged from the shadows with a cruel smile, circuits pulsing along his arms as he twisted her own psionic energy back against her. Pain lanced through her mind like barbed wire; her blade flickered out as she dropped to her knees, fingers clawing at the concrete for focus that wouldn’t come. With the slightest hint of the sound of his leather boots on the floor, he closed the distance, one hand tangling in her long dark hair. Mindblade’s eyes fluttered open just as her back met the cold, corroded wall — helpless, breath shallow, the predator’s grin inches from her face.
