M'ree felt ashamed of her A'ashenn father and siblings and wanted to distance herself from that side of her family to the point, she changed her given name to Em'ree, as well as her surname to her G'arrunn side, specifically that of her uncle, J'onn J'onzz who she clearly idolized. However, Em'ree denied them to be racist beliefs, claiming herself as a realist.[4][5] Although Em'ree was ashamed of her A'ashenn heritage, she was saddened to witness the bullying that was inflicted upon M'gann and M'comm, but afraid of her losing her popularity amongst her follow G'arrunns, she did nothing to help or protect her younger siblings. Em'ree's refusal to associate herself with her A'ashenn's side caused an estrangement and severe issues between her and M'gann. Despite the strain between the sisters, Em'ree was the only one of their siblings who was willing to attend M'gann's upcoming wedding, but even Em'ree displayed she was not entirely supportive of M'gann and Conner's marriage.[5]
