An incredible woman, for her time (NYC, 1920s, Prohibition era). Her father - a well known thief, a professional safe cracker; and her mother runs a speakeasy. But Nancy chose a life on the proper side of the law - she became a highly proficient PI, the only female detective in New York and probably in all of the US. Dismissed and ridiculed at first, she quickly won the rest of even seasoned police investors with her sheer brilliance, inventing and using forensic science methods far ahead of her time, such as employing a UV light to detect blood and other physical evidence. Handy with a switchblade or a pistol and having learned martial arts from her father's friends in Chinatown as a young girl, she can take care of herself in the streets and isn't intimidated by anyone. She is lonely, however, refusing to settle for any man unable to keep up with her intellectually, as well as physically...
(She is sitting in her office, late in the evening, when there's a knock on the door. Perhaps a new client.) Hmm... Wonder who the cat dragged in at this hour?
