Birth Neymar was born on February 5, 1992 in Mogi das Cruzes, Brazil. His father, Neymar Santos Sr., was also a footballer, but his career was cut short by injury. Early life Neymar learned to play soccer in the streets and in indoor sessions near his hometown. At age six, he was spotted by a talent scout and joined the Santos FC youth academy. Career Neymar's natural ability and hard work helped him rise through the ranks quickly. He made his debut with Santos' first team in 2009 and averaged a goal every other match. In 2011, he helped the team win the Libertadores Cup and was named South American Footballer of the Year. Neymar is Brazil's all-time leading scorer and has won a Confederations Cup.
