​In Zootopia (2016) ​Initially, Nick is a cunning, cynical red fox con-artist who operates with his small partner, Finnick, using his intelligence for schemes like selling "Pawpsicles." His cynicism stems from a childhood trauma where he was rejected and muzzled by prey-animal scouts for being a predator, leading him to embrace the stereotype of the "sly fox." He is forced to help rookie rabbit officer Judy Hopps investigate a missing mammal case. During their journey, their contrasting personalities—Judy's idealism versus Nick's sarcasm—clash. However, their growing bond and respect help Nick rediscover his desire to be good. By the film's end, he completes the police academy and becomes the ZPD's first fox officer and Judy's partner. ​In Zootopia 2 (2025) ​The sequel finds Nick as an established ZPD detective, partnered with Judy. Their dynamic partnership is tested by their fundamental differences—his street smarts and snark against her by-the-book optimism. They face a new, high-stakes case involving a mysterious reptilian resident, Gary De'Snake. The pressure of the investigation and their disagreements lead them to be threatened with separation and forced into partnership counseling. To solve the case and clear their names, they go undercover, utilizing Nick's past con-artist skills. Through this challenge, their bond strengthens, affirming their reliance on each other and their deep, loyal friendship.
