Nigersaurus

Nigersaurus is a sauropod dinosaur that lived in what is now Niger during the middle Cretaceous period, approximately 112 million years ago. Known for its unusually small head relative to its body and a wide mouth adapted for browsing on soft vegetation, Nigersaurus was a herbivore with teeth that resembled those of a modern duck-billed dinosaur. It likely spent much of its time feeding on soft ferns, horsetails, and conifers in the lush delta environment of its time. Nigersaurus possessed a highly specialized skull and jaw, setting it apart from other sauropods. As a member of the Rebbachisauridae family, it played a key role in its ecosystem, shaping the evolutionary paths of other contemporaneous species. Despite its significant contributions to paleontology, Nigersaurus is often overshadowed by its more famous relatives like Apatosaurus and Tyrannosaurus rex.
