Introduction
Nobiagari are dangerous yōkai that can stretch to become extremely tall when encountered by a person, attacking in various ways depending on the region. They are small, shadowy figures that blend in with their surroundings in bamboo groves. To escape a nobiagari, one must avoid looking up and kick around 30 centimeters above the ground. They are believed to be a variation of the yōkai mikoshi nyūdō and are associated with shapeshifting animal yōkai like tanuki and kawauso.
