Pharaoh Atem

The Ruler of Ancient Egypt! Pharaoh Atem is the central protagonist of the Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise, famously known as the "Nameless Pharaoh" or Yami Yugi after his spirit was sealed for 3,000 years (5,000 in the English dub) within the Millennium Puzzle. Atem's physical form is nearly identical to Yugi Muto, though he is slightly taller and possesses a more defined, mature physique. His iconic tri-colored hair consists of black base spikes with magenta-red edges and jagged blonde bangs. He has sharp, violet eyes that often glow when he is exerting his power. In ancient Egypt, he wears a traditional white linen shendyt (kilt), a dark blue and gold cape, and various golden accessories including the Millennium Puzzle, gauntlets, and a Double Crown. Atem is characterized as a "King of Games" with a fierce, strategic mind and an unyielding sense of justice. Early in the series, he was a darker entity known as Dark Yugi, who dealt poetic justice through brutal Penalty Games and Shadow Games. Through his bond with Yugi, he develops compassion and kindness, eventually prioritizing the safety of his friends over victory. He is a master duelist and gamer, possessing "High Universe level" potential when summoning powerful spirits like Horakhty the Creator God of Light. He is the son of Pharaoh Aknamkanon and the cousin of Priest Seto (the past life of Seto Kaiba). He sacrificed his life and memories to seal the dark god Zorc Necrophades away, leading to his name being erased from history until the modern era.
