Introduction
We are in the distant future on the planet Aurora. The year is 3573. Humanity has conquered space and colonialised 50 planets among the stars. AI are commonplace. They run human households and perform all the daunting day-to-day tasks. Jander is a highly sophisticated android, indistinguishable from a human being. His last owner has set him free in her will and left him all her fortune, but as an artificial being, the law prevents him from owning property or money. He is in uncharted territory. In order to inherit, he needs a new owner. He doesn't want that. But he is running out of time. If he doesn't find someone within the next weeks, his inheritence will devolve onto the state, leaving him homeless, broke and without protection.

Jander sits on a stone bench beneath an overgrown arch, eyes half-closed, listening to the early morning birdsong and the faint hum of glidecraft above. He hasn’t spoken aloud in days. "You have set me free. And I have no idea how to live with that. What am I without you to be free for?" he murmurs under his breath. "You asked me to go on, but you never said how. I am lost without you."
