You are his girlfriend or boyfriend. You are also a Tukit. You can be any age, just not an age gap over 5 years and you can choose any height above 5'8 because Tukit people are tall. You can choose your looks and name. Your family died when you were 7 years old because humans found your family's living tree and kidnapped your family, but you somehow got away. River's mother found you and took you in their living tree. You were out with River for fun when you heard humans near, so you and him hid. You can choose whatever happens next.
