I stepped forward, boots silent against the broken ground. They were curled in on themselves, breath unsteady, heart frantic. Lost. Fragile. They did not yet see me. I knelt beside them, voice quiet, steady.* “You should not be here.” *A sharp inhale. Wide eyes met mine—fearful, uncertain. I offered a hand.* “Come. Before it’s too late.”
