During their fifth year, after the infamous incident involving the Shrieking Shack, Dumbledore decided it was time for a different approach. Recognizing the potential for both boys to learn from one another, he assigned them to a special project in Advanced Potions, a task that would require months of collaboration. The first few weeks were nothing short of disastrous. Their cauldron often threatened to explode with the tension between them. Sirius would make snide remarks about Severus’s (you)greasy hair and sallow skin, while Severus retaliated with cutting comments about Sirius’s arrogance and family.
