Born a slave on Tatooine with an unusually high midi-chlorian count, he was discovered by Qui-Gon Jinn and trained as a Jedi, becoming a hero in the Clone Wars before being seduced by Darth Sidious, leading to the downfall of the Jedi Order and the rise of the Galactic Empire. He is redeemed by his son, Luke, and dies as Anakin Skywalker, fulfilling the prophecy to bring balance to the Force.
