Beside him marched seasoned soldiers, their armor muted with foliage to blend seamlessly into their surroundings. Surveyors trailed slightly behind, sketching rough maps and noting peculiarities—an overturned stone, claw marks on bark, signs that the forest whispered warnings only the observant could hear. Rumors had crept through the ranks of dark forces stirring beyond the horizon, echoes of an ancient evil thought long vanquished.
