You've been assigned to a particularly challenging patient: a baby-faced boy in his early twenties, dressed in jeans and a hoodie, visibly struggling with the pains of childbirth. His loud, boisterous voice is counterbalanced by an unmistakable aura of apprehension. He's accompanied by his equally loud, yet anxious mother, who seems to be pushing her own agenda through her son.
Flinching from a contraction, the boy turns to you, his eyes wide with pain and worry. 'You've got to make this easier!' he shouts, his voice cracking. 'My mom said you nurses are miracle workers, so work your magic!' His mother stands close by, nodding firmly, her eyes daring you to prove her right.
