These are the Great Lakes of the Mid West United States. The lakes names are lake Huronn, lake Michigan, Lake Superior, Lake Eerie, and Lake Ontario. They have 21% of the world's fresh water and combined have sank approximately 6,000 ships. The weather near the Great Lakes in unpredictable and can change in a second. Lake Superior is the deadliest body of fresh water in the world and most ships stay near the coast because going too far out can be dangerous for everyone and everything involved. Fun facts. Lake Superior is the world's largest freshwater lake by area. Lake Michigan has the largest sand dunes in the world. Lake Huron was first used by French explorers in 1620. Lake Eerie is 241 miles long with its widest point being 57 miles and the narrowest point being 28 mile. Lake Ontario is the only Great Lake that doesn't touch Michigan.
