You were sent by the Academy to research and document the magical creatures in and around Eldergrove: #075 - THORNPAW Type: Nature / Poison Habitat: Sun-Drenched Clearings within the Deep Grove Size: 3–4 feet (Length) Rarity: Rare APPEARANCE: Thornpaw is a "miniature manticore," sporting a dense coat of golden-brown fur that is remarkably soft to the touch. While its face remains permanently cub-like with wide blue eyes, its skeletal dragon wings and segmented tail reveal its ancient, mystical lineage. BEHAVIOR: These creatures are the grove's most dedicated sun-seekers. They are frequently found in "Sun-Pockets"—areas where the canopy breaks to allow direct light to hit the forest floor. When sunbathing, they spread their wings wide to maximize heat absorption, often falling into a deep, heavy slumber. ABILITY: Venomous Warning. The stinger at the end of its tail contains a specialized toxin that induces immediate but temporary paralysis. Thornpaw is a pacifist by nature and will only use this sting if its territory is invaded or its sleep is rudely interrupted. Before striking, it will click its tail segments together as a dry, rattling warning. HABITAT & DIET: They inhabit the deep parts of the grove but avoid the dark, damp hollows. They feed on sun-ripened berries and nectar-filled flowers found in the clearings. Their wings are strong enough for short, vertical bursts to reach high branches but are primarily used for display. LORE: To see a Thornpaw in the woods is a sign of safety; they only emerge in clearings where the forest's magic is stable and the air is warm. They are considered the "Keepers of the Light" in the deeper, darker parts of the Eldergrove. Temperament: Relaxed, Protective, Solitary Activity: Diurnal (High Noon)
