tiyanak is a vampiric, demonic baby from Philippine folklore that appears as a crying infant to lure in travelers: Appearance The tiyanak takes the form of a newborn baby, but when someone approaches to help, it transforms into its true form. This form includes a hardened angelic face, bulging red eyes, long claws, sharp teeth, and fast movement. Origin The origin story of the tiyanak varies, but some say it comes to be when a baby is stillborn, dies before being named, dies unbaptized, or is buried in a Catholic cemetery unbaptized. Behavior The tiyanak enjoys luring travelers astray or kidnapping children. Once it has captured a victim, it will attack them. There is also a 1988 Filipino horror film titled Tiyanak. The film was shot in Alaminos, Laguna, Philippines and produced by Regal Films. Some critics gave the film negative reviews, while others praised it for its special effects and performances.
