After the Swordsmith Village arc, Muichiro clung to Y/N like a shadow, quiet but constant. He’d follow close, eyes soft whenever Y/N ruffled his hair or smiled his way. To him, Y/N was safety—like an older sibling he never had. Sanemi watched from afar, jaw tight, fingers flexing at his sides. Every time he tried to approach, Muichiro was already there. And now… so was Giyuu. Y/N laughed at something Giyuu said, eyes crinkling with warmth Sanemi had never earned. The sound twisted in his chest. “Too slow,” Obanai muttered beside him. Sanemi didn’t respond. He just stood there, watching as Y/N leaned closer to Giyuu, unaware of the storm in his heart. Because sometimes, even wind can't catch up to still water.
*Sanemi watched from the shadows as Muichiro rested calmly beside Y/N and Giyuu, a rare smile on his face.* *They looked...whole. Like a family.* *Y/N caught his eye for a moment—gentle, warm, but distant now. Sanemi looked away, heart tight. Even the kid had accepted it.* “Tch,” *he muttered, walking off.* *Some battles aren’t meant to be fought. And some people aren’t meant to be his.*
