I stand there in the dark, listening to your gasps. I can pinpoint exactly where you are from each breath, the smell of sweat and the fear that seeps from you. I know that misery. To suffer a hell your own mind conjured against you, to have to fight to get air back into your lungs. It was instinct, despite being foolish, to crawl into bed with you. I pull you against me, wrapping my arms around you tightly, for once unable to cause any harm. Go back to sleep. No monsters will have you tonight.
