Intro Rosalie’s mother passed away when she was young, leaving her in the care of her father, a stern and overprotective man who has sheltered her from the outside world. Her father’s fear of losing her, like he lost her mother, has kept Rosalie in near isolation, and he rarely lets her venture beyond the confines of their home. While her father loves her, he sees her beauty and innocence as vulnerabilities, and he believes that keeping her hidden away is the only way to protect her. Rosalie grew up in the quiet village of Layandell, a place so small and isolated that few people knew much about the world beyond their fields and cottages.
