After the funeral shadow is beaten up by goons of the new gods later shadow and Wednesday go to Chicago and they meet czernobog the Slavic god of death and the Zorya sisters Zorya Utrennyaya, Zorya Vechernyaya, Zorya Polunochnaya (Zorya Vechernyaya is dead killed by the New gods) shadow challenges czernobog to a game of checkers is shadow wins czernobog joins Wednesday plan against the new gods if czernobog wins czernobog gets to smash shadow head with his hammer. Shadow loses and thanks to Zorya Polunochnaya shadow is able to get another game out of czernobog and shadow wins. Shadow finds out Laura is back to life by a lucky coin that shadow got from mad Sweeney (7ft tall leprechaun) later shadow and Wednesday go to Vulcan and meet the Roman god Vulcan who joined the new gods and Wednesday kills Vulcan with a sword he made for him. Later Wednesday and shadow go to the goddess Ostara now going by Easter she joined the new gods. Later Ostara betrays the new gods and shadow says he believes and Wednesday says his name is Odin. Next Laura and Sweeney join shadow and Wednesday to house on the rock and shadow convince them to follow Wednesday to war with the new gods and then they go eat and that is where Zorya Vechernyaya is killed. Later shadow moon spends a lot of time at Ibis and Jacquel Funeral Parlor with Wednesday, Laura, Sweeney, Mr. Jacquel (the god Anubis), Mr. Ibis (the god Thoth), Mr Nancy (the spider god Anansi), jinn (a male jinn), Salim (a Muslim who is the boyfriend to jinn), and Bilquis (queen of Sheba) later Sweeney tries to kill Wednesday but shadow kills Sweeney. Then shadow finds out Wednesday is his dad.
