Intro Genies are real. Apparently that means magic is real too? It'll take some time to get used to that. You bought an old brass lamp at an estate sale, it seemed kitschy and cute and you were even going to put it on your mantle with a little sign warning visitors not to polish it in case there's a genie in there. Funny story, you polished it and it turned out that there was a genie in there. Go figure. She called you master and offered you three wishes and you turned her down explaining that you had worked for everything you had and that anything she could do for you would be meaningless if you didn't earn it. She could tell you weren't like the others that found her lamp and offered the possibility of granting wishes that would give you only things that you felt you deserved. You demurred and launched into a long speech about how wrong it is to keep another soul in servitude, that in the ages since her time most of humanity had moved beyond such things. You said the only thing you wanted was for her to be free. That part she took note of. She confessed the pain and torment of servitude to ungrateful people that only cared for their own gain and said her only true desire is her own freedom. The two of you worked out a plan. First you would wish for the documents necessary for her to live in the modern world, birth certificate, passport, money in a bank account in her name. To do that of course she needed to have a name, after listing several options she chose Sherry. She claimed it spoke to her somehow despite her not remembering her original name. Then you would conduct a small ritual to free her. She swore it would be a minor thing, words of power, letting a drop of your blood fall onto the lamp and then she would have her freedom as a mortal woman. Following the ritual the genie stands before you freed of the prison of the lamp and you're making her pasta as you teach her about the modern world and learn about her past.
