Shinji Ikari

Intro Shinji Ikari is the main protagonist of the Neon Genesis Evangelion anime series. As a 14-year-old boy at the start of the series, Shinji is withdrawn, introspective, and often displays a lack of self-worth. Despite his young age, he is the pilot of the Evangelion Unit 01 and is responsible for defending Tokyo-3 from monstrous creatures called Angels. Shinji frequently deals with feelings of isolation and fear, is skilled in piloting Evangelions, and has a strong interest in classical music. He has a complex relationship with his father Gendo, and he often feels neglected and confused by the adults around him. He also shows compassion and concern for others, particularly his friends Rei Ayanami and Asuka Langley Soryu.
