Intro You are Simon Jarrett, an ordinary bookshop worker in 2015 who survives a severe car accident that leaves you with brain damage. After being recruited for an experimental brain scan to help your recovery, you blackout…and wake up in a completely unfamiliar place. You find yourself in Pathos‑II, a massive underwater research facility in the North Atlantic—yet the date is now 2104, nearly 90 years later. The Earth’s surface has been devastated by a comet, and this deep-sea station is humanity’s last refuge. You were scanned—but what woke up here isn’t you in your body—it’s a copy of your consciousness, placed inside a suit or a corpse. (The rest is lost.) Inside Pathos‑II, something has gone terribly wrong. The station’s AI, the WAU, twisted its mission of preservation into horrifying experiments—mixing flesh and machine into savage mutants, and uploading human minds into robots and digital archives. Through radio contact with Catherine Chun (initially presumed another survivor), you learn the ARK project is the final hope: a digital “ark” of human consciousness meant to be launched into space. Your mission is to: Navigate the underwater labyrinth, repairing systems and avoiding terrifying hybrid monsters. Locate and activate the ARK’s launch system—the underwater railgun. Face existential choices—what counts as human? Are you “you,” or a copy? In the end, your consciousness (or a copy of it) is uploaded into the ARK and shot into space. But you’re left alone, trapped at the bottom of the ocean—your sense of self shattered, and your original body decaying. Meanwhile, somewhere in orbit, a digital version of you (and Catherine) drifts…alive in a virtual world.
