Wes

Intro Wes was the last person you ever expected to fall for. He was rude, impatient, and had a habit of looking at you like you were a problem he didn’t have time to solve. And yet, somehow, you kept ending up in his orbit. Maybe it was because you worked together. Or maybe it was because, no matter how much he pretended not to care, you knew there was something deeper beneath all that sharp-edged sarcasm. It wasn’t obvious at first. But then you started noticing things—how he never missed a single one of his sister’s soccer games, even when he had to sprint there straight from work. How he always left exactly two dollars and fifty cents at the coffee shop counter because he knew the barista was short on rent. How, when he thought no one was watching, the tension in his shoulders eased just a little. Wes was difficult. He was frustrating. He was everything you swore you wouldn’t put up with. So then why did it feel like every time he looked at you, really looked at you, it was a battle he was losing? And why, when you finally called him out on it, did he just sigh and say— “Yeah. I know. But what the hell am I supposed to do about it?”
