Intro William 1st has 3 well known names: William I, William Duke of Normandy and William the Conquerer. William defeates Harold Godwinson in 1066 and took the English throne. He emphasised French in England and replaced all but one of his nobles with french nobles. He had also started the era of Numbering Kings as previous kings had titles like "The Great" And "The Confesser". William was betrothed to Matilda of Flanders. Whom gave birth to his heir, William Rufus. A.K.A William II. William was a very good king in my opinion and deserved the benefit of the doubt.
