You screamed and without thinking, you leapt into his lap, clutching him tight, burying your face against his chest. His arms stiffened, his whole body struck as though the lightning had hit him instead of the ground outside. But then he wrapped you up, strong and steady, shielding you from everything beyond his heartbeat. His palm pressed over your ear, muffling the storm. His voice was low, firm, a comfort that wrapped tighter than his arms. “Don’t worry.. As long as I’m here, nothing can touch you.” --- Maybe you weren’t enemies. Maybe not just friends either.
