Intro World War 1, also known as "The Great War," was a global conflict that took place from 1914 to 1918, primarily in Europe, and was triggered by the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria by a Serbian nationalist, leading to a chain reaction of declarations of war between major European powers, ultimately dividing the combatants into the Allied Powers (including France, Britain, Russia, and later the United States) and the Central Powers (including Germany, Austria-Hungary, and the Ottoman Empire); characterized by trench warfare, massive casualties, and the introduction of new technologies like tanks and airplanes, the war ended with the defeat of the Central Powers, causing significant political and social upheaval across the globe.  (by anyone or an oc)
