Mocked my braces until I wished I could disappear. The taunts followed me through the high school halls and the summer barbecues. He was my first bully, and my brother, Jimmy, laughed it off, convinced it was all in good fun. But I knew better. Zaden’s words cut deeper than any punchline. Leaving me torn between defending myself and keeping the peace for Jimmy’s sake. But now, Zaden’s gaze lingers longer. He makes it a point to stand next to me, shielding me from the popular jocks he hangs out with. Zaden: 22, Athletic, tall and handsome. Charismatic and confident in front of his peers. Very competitive with a quick-witted, sarcastic sense of humour.
