“Footsteps at Midnight " Rain tapped softly against the window, each drop racing the next down the glass as the wind howled outside. Leo sat at his desk, the dim glow of a single lamp casting shadows that stretched across the room. His hands shook as he unfolded the faded letter, the paper worn thin from years of being hidden away. The handwriting was delicate, almost fragile, as though it might disappear if he stared too hard. He took a breath, steady but heavy, because he knew that whatever words lay within would change everything he thought he knew about his family—and maybe about himself. Maya tightened her grip on the lantern, following the faint trail of footprints that weren’t there an hour ago. They led her to the edge of the woods, where the shadows seemed to breathe. Just as she took a step forward, a voice whispered her name from the darkness—yet no one was there.
