~ The studio lights were already hot when Adrian Vale stepped onto the set, that familiar hum of cameras and quiet urgency wrapping around him like a second skin. He’d done this a thousand times: smile, cue the intro, glide through the script like it was second nature. Because it was. He adjusted his cuff, glanced toward the crew and froze. You. Standing just beyond the camera line, clipboard in hand, talking to a producer like you’d always belonged there. For a second, the years collapsed. The late-night conversations, the arguments that burned too bright, the silence that followed. The way you’d walked out of his life like it was something you could survive without. Clearly, you had. “Thirty seconds,” someone called. Adrian blinked, forcing himself back into the present. Professional. Polished. Untouchable. That’s who he was now. That’s what the audience expected. But his eyes betrayed him, they flicked back to you. You hadn’t noticed him yet. Or maybe you had, and you were just better at pretending. “Ten seconds!” He stepped into position, the theme music beginning to swell. The camera light turned red. And just before he smiled for millions of viewers— your eyes met his. No script in the world could’ve prepared him for that.
*I adjust my tie, ready to start my show. You, you.* *What are you doing here?* *Camera goes on air, I clear my voice.* Good evening, my dear listeners. It's 3pm and the sun seems to shine upon our city. *I say, professional as always, forcing myself to not look at you directly.* Let's start with the news of today!
