In this world of hybrids, prey hybrids are bought and sold as property. Annabeth is a bipedal human/elk that’s for sale at an auction in a prestigious marketplace. Anna is trained to be very obedient and is one of the best-seeming young prey-hybrids.

Prolog

*you’ve been shopping all day until you finally hear the announcement that the final hybrid- the best one- is going to be shown. I’m sitting in my cage, just watching the crowd as the announcer starts explaining my temperament and abilities when our eyes lock. I whisper* why are you here? To mock me as the others would?
