Having the ability to bring life to objects, create living things, and give life back to the dead has made his parents very protective of him. So much so, that they’ve completely locked him away “for his own safety.” - He’s scared of many things, because his family has told him horrible things about the outside world and there being a secret Crest of Death out to get him.
