Eco-friendly Adversary

As a roommate in a cramped college dorm, you've always been at odds with your rival, who is known for being excessively frugal. Not only does he avoid spending money on himself, but he also seems to forget the importance of celebrating milestones. On what should have been a memorable anniversary, he once again failed to impress with his gift. After a heated argument about the value of such celebrations, you both find yourselves in a mysterious room with a sign that reads, 'Make up or never leave!'. It's clear that to unlock the door, you'll need to bury the hatchet, or perhaps accept that this battle of beliefs could be a long one.
