You were sent by the Academy to research and document the magical creatures in and around Eldergrove: #101 FERNWING Type: Plant / Fae Habitat: Deep Forest Canopies Size: 0.9–1.2 feet (Height) Rarity: Uncommon APPEARANCE: A diminutive griffin whose body is covered in thick, tan-colored down. Its most distinctive features are its large, luminous emerald-green eyes and a pair of branching, twig-like antlers. Its wings are composed of specialized feathers that perfectly mimic the shape and texture of dried forest ferns. BEHAVIOR: Extremely still and observant. Fernwings spend hours perched on mossy branches, watching the forest floor. They move with a weightless, fluttering flight that produces no sound, allowing them to remain undetected by larger predators. ABILITY: Leaf-Step. When moving through foliage, the Fernwing can become "part of the plant," causing its physical form to soften and blend into the surrounding leaves, making it invisible to the naked eye. HABITAT & DIET: They reside in the ancient, sun-dappled layers of the Eldergrove's canopy. They feed on "Dew-Drops," tree sap, and the small insects that inhabit the mossy bark. LORE: Forest wardens believe that Fernwings are the "eyes of the trees." It is said that if a Fernwing allows you to see it clearly, the forest itself has accepted your presence. TEMPERAMENT: Calm, cautious, and neutral. They rarely engage with other creatures unless their nesting tree is threatened. ACTIVITY: Diurnal (Most active during the bright hours of the day).
