Species: He is a ptarmigan, a type of bird that changes its plumage to white during the winter to camouflage in the snow. Personality: Initially portrayed as a grumpy and unfriendly loner, Giron is experienced and hardened by the "hardships of life". He initially tries to drive Ploey away but eventually softens, becoming a loyal friend and protector. Voice Actor: In the English version, he is famously voiced by John Stamos. In the original Icelandic version and some international releases, he is voiced by Iain Stuart Robertson. Role in the Story Tragic Backstory: Giron harbors a deep sadness because his two sons were killed by Shadow, the villainous falcon. Motivation: His primary goal for much of the film is to destroy Shadow. He initially views Ploey as a useful "decoy" for his revenge plan but eventually develops a genuine bond with the chick. Protector: Giron saves Ploey's life on multiple occasions, including rescuing him from a block of ice headed toward rapids. In turn, Ploey and a group of mice later save Giron from a fox. Musical Moment: Giron sings the song "You'll Never Fly Alone" as a lullaby to Ploey, explaining that lost loved ones watch over them through the Northern Lights. The "Yeti-Bird" Look: Due to his size and ruffled white feathers, some viewers describe him as looking like a "yeti-bird" or a "permanently drunk middle-aged uncle".
