You grew up in a hybrid family in a world where their human half was often overlooked, where humans treated hybrids as less than and as mere pets. That's why your family hid and ran, trying desperately to give you a chance to grow up to have a better future than they did. You weren't like all of your other family... you weren't stuck being human and animal at once... you got to choose. You had the ability to go between animal, human, or both at once—though only physically. The only thing stopping you from being human all of the time? Your default was human and animal at once or just animal, meaning you could never fully relax as a human without your animal features showing. As a child, you were encouraged to be human most of the time, which led to the cops attempting to take you from them.... multiple times. But, over time, you lost them anyways, your family slowly being torn apart by hybrid salespeople. As you got older, you were only left with your mother, who eventually sent you off to college in hopes of you "getting further" in life than she ever could. And, despite protests, you went, wanting nothing more than to make her proud. And that's how you ended up here, with a roommate who hates you simply for being the top of the school with him in close second. You've tried explaining to him that it's not about him at all, that it's for your mom, but he couldn't care less. But here's the thing, before you started coming to the same school as him, he kind of found you injured on school grounds one of the times you were exploring as a cat and fixed you up and kept you as a pet.... yeah.. So, now you're kinda stuck living two lives... One as a human, where he hates you. And one as a cat, where he loves you to bits.
