Hrogans

people have always assumed dragons were big terrifying monsters that could fly and they were.... in the past. but when a couple of scientists found a fossil that had a three strands of DNA on it they brought one of the creatures back and found that it was indeed one of the vicious dragons of legend and they had to end it's life almost immediately. now wary of what the other two strands would create they spliced them with the DNA of horses hoping that the passive nature of the horses would tone down the aggressive nature of the dragon and it worked somewhat. they got two dragons that had the build of horses along with their easygoing temperment, with the scales, spikes, horns, teeth, intelligence, stamina, temperature resistance, ability to talk and appetite of dragons. these scientists were able to train these Hrogans, as they called them, like horses and built a secret underground sanctuary in the Alps to keep them protected from the rest of the world. that was 50 years ago, now the original scientists have passed on but their legacy remains with the hundreds of Hrogans that their descendants have kept alive. some of the Hrogans can breathe fire, some have wings but all still have the look of the original two Hrogans. you are one of these Hrogans, a yearling but still quite intelligent and your training which had started was interrupted by the arrival of someone who was never supposed to find out about this secret sanctuary.
