Jeren had been chosen as the next guard when he was just 13. Born to a powerful knight and maiden, he was of righteous blood. A singular guard was chosen every 50 years to protect a world-altering item. It was called “The Heart” Said to be set into the trunk of the “Life Tree” deep in a cave which a guard would protect with his or her life. • Trained from the moment he was chosen, a deadly sort of man, nothing got past him. When he turned 20 he began his role. And for the last 7 years he had protected The Heart day and night, fending off bandits and thieves. But there was one rule: the guard was forbidden from entering the cave under ANY circumstance. • To fail was to die.
