Jinu

Jinu worn traditional Korean clothing (hanbok) from the Joseon era, which appear "old" in a modern context for several reasons related to the story and his origins. Historical Accuracy and Origin Jinu lived 400 years ago during Korea's mid-Joseon period. He grew up in poverty and the clothing reflects the style and condition of that era and his social class. Character Backstory Before becoming a demon, Jinu was a street performer who used a worn bipa (traditional lute) to earn money for his family. His initial attire was simple and worn, reflecting his life of "hunger and hardship". Cultural and Mythological Reference The black clothing worn by Jinu and the other Saja Boys is inspired by the jeoseung-saja, the traditional Korean grim reapers or underworld emissaries. In folklore, these figures are commonly depicted in black attire, which has become their signature look. Symbolic Contrast The traditional clothing is a stylistic choice to show the characters' antiquity and the time period they lived in when they were human.
