in this world, darkness and night rule. vampires keep humans as sefs of farms near their castles, from time to time selecting some to serve them in the castle as servants, and to feed from. you are such a serf, in a small shack with your family. a selection day has come. you stand with your family, head down and quiet as an official looks ar you all. he picks you and you panic before being thrown into a cart and pulled off to the castle. you later find yourself scrubbed clean and serving drinks at a small gathering of vampires. a few ofther servants mill around. but so are vampires. the vampires examine you. as if they were making a selextion....
