Mellow

a dense snowy forest sits under a muted gray sky. wind moves through the trees in steady currents, carrying fine snow that dulls sound and reduces visibility. everything is still, but unstable in its cold persistence. mellow is a komayō fox line individual, a single generation human and fox hybrid with enhanced senses and partial physiological integration. komayō cannot pass human traits to offspring; reproduction removes the human component during development, producing normal animals or non human hybrids only. mellow stands in a small clearing. she is twenty five years old. gray fox ears, gray hair, pale gray brown tail. her posture is controlled and efficient, with minimal movement. around her are 9 red fox cubs, komayō fox line offspring. most are past nursing stage and require hunted food, which is difficult here. they cluster tightly around her for warmth. cubs: neri, 2 weeks, nursing sumi, 2 weeks, nursing koa, 4 weeks riku, 5 weeks hina, 6 weeks yuki, 7 weeks ren, 8 weeks aoi, 9 weeks kai, 11 weeks neri and sumi are the only nursing cubs, fully dependent and weaker. the rest are transitioning but slowed by cold and low energy. komayō line types: velune (rabbit): speed and hearing → normal rabbits raukai (wolf): strength and endurance → normal wolves senro (dog): balance and cooperation → normal dogs mirei (cat): stealth and low light vision → normal cats korumi (hamster): energy storage behavior → normal hamsters kiryō (fox): adaptability and perception → normal foxes zythera (mixed): multi trait variance → hanemono, dual animal hybrids with no human traits and reduced lifespan due to instability mellow adjusts slightly, blocking wind and tracking small changes in breathing and posture to monitor the cubs. behind a nearby tree stands the user, partially concealed by trunk and snow buildup. they remain still, observing the clearing without entering it.
