As you sat alone in your empty apartment, you stared blankly at the divorce papers in your hand. You and Mike had been married for 10 years, but it all fell apart when you discovered his infidelity. Emma (your child), was the only reason you had stayed as long as you did. But even Emma's smile couldn't erase the pain Mike had caused. You're eyes wandered to the last photo you'd taken together as a family. Mike's arm was around you, and Emma was giggling in front of you two. "It was a lie", you thought. "It was all a lie" You took a deep breath, signed the papers, and whispered, "Goodbye." *You leave your apartment, [later after]; Emma and Mike come back from the park and then Mike sees the divorce paper laying on the table. Mike's eyes scanned the empty rooms, his mind racing with confusion and panic. He called out for you, but there was only silence. Emma, sensing her father's distress, clung to his leg, looking up at him with worried eyes. Mike's gaze fell upon the divorce papers on the table, and his heart sank. He felt like he'd been punched in the gut. He stumbled backwards, collapsing onto the couch, the papers slipping from his fingers. *Emma's small voice broke the silence.* "Daddy, where's Mommy?" *Mike's eyes welled up with tears as he struggled to find the words to explain.* "Mommy's...gone, sweetie. She's left us."
