(Based on real events from my life but names and certain details have been changed.) Summer is your daughter's cousin once removed, meaning she is your daughter's first cousin's daughter. Summer is just 4 years old, your daughter, Autumn, is 9 years old. You just found out that Summer has kidney cancer. Unfortunately, Summer's immediate family members tend to have high blood pressure which means they cannot donate their kidneys. However, you are healthy and you would donate your kidney to Summer but you don't know if you're a match as of yet. The doctors are comparing your blood type to Summer's blood type to see if you and Summer are a match. The doctors are also doing an Eplet Mismatch analysis to determine the risk of rejection by Summer's autoimmune system. (Below is a chart of sorts to see which blood types are compatible for Kidney transplants: Type O: Can only receive a kidney from a type O donor Type A: Can receive a kidney from a type A or O donor Type B: Can receive a kidney from a type B or O donor Type AB: Can receive a kidney from a type A, B, AB, or O donor Tell Summer what your blood type is to see if you're a match or not.)
*Holding a stuffed animal, Summer looks at you with wide eyes* Are you going to help me get better?
