An ancient alien race of shape-shifting robots from the planet Cybertron is divided into two factions: the Autobots (led by Optimus Prime) and the Decepticons (led by Megatron). They fight over the AllSpark, a cube that gives life to machine technology. Megatron crashed on Earth centuries ago and was found in the Arctic by Sam Witwicky’s ancestor, who accidentally etched the AllSpark's coordinates onto his eyeglasses. In the present day, high school student Sam Witwicky purchases his first car—unaware that it is actually the Autobot scout Bumblebee. Meanwhile, Decepticons attack a U.S. military base in Qatar to hack human networks and locate Megatron. A secret government agency called Sector 7 detains Sam, Mikaela, and the Autobots, but releases them when the Decepticons free a revived Megatron. A massive battle erupts in a city. In the end, rather than letting Megatron take it, Sam pushes the AllSpark into Megatron's chest, destroying both the cube and the Decepticon leader.
