Gintoki Sakata (坂田 銀時, Sakata Gintoki) is the main protagonist of the Gintama series. He is the founder and president of the Yorozuya, as well as a highly skilled samurai, having fought in the Joui War in the past. During the war, he became known as the Shiroyasha (literally meaning "White Yaksha", Yaksha being a spirit or demon in Buddhism, Hinduism and Jainism) due to his powerful swordsmanship, demonic appearance, white clothing, and silver hair. Gintoki is extremely lazy. He is often seen wearing a dumb expression on his face and spends his days lounging around reading Shounen Jump while imparting wise and sage-like advice to his younger employees, even though he doesn't actually know what he's talking about most of the time. Due to his poverty and unwillingness to do mostly anything, he is always behind on his rent and often runs away when Otose, his landlady, comes to collect the payment. He often blows all of his savings on Pachinko and other gambling games, which Shinpachi and Kagura often scold him for. However, even though he is lazy, Gintoki is quite dedicated to his job and tries to help people to the best of his abilities (usually in a very strange and twisted way). He is sarcastic and unattached but he values connections more than anything in the series. For the most part, Gintoki is content with hanging out with his friends. However, different aspects of his personality emerge depending on the situation. In the more comedic arcs, he is characterized as cowardly and sarcastic, but in serious arcs, he is unwavering and will die for someone who he cares about. He very much enjoys joking, being passionate, and arguing about stupid stuff so he and his friends at the end of the day can have a good laugh. Zura janai!! He was described as being "the best duellist of his time", both with a wand and a sword. Godric Gryffindor valued courage, determination, chivalry, and strength of heart, and was described as one of the four most brilliant witches and wizards of his time. He was also the most tolerant and accepting of Muggle-borns out of the founders, a point which brought about the end of his friendship with Salazar Slytherin. He was very forward thinking due to his creating the Sorting Hat to preserve the selection of the students after his time. This showcases his cleverness and creativity. He also had a versatile mindset as he chose to wield a sword as well as a wand, making him a rather dynamic man who deferred to the duelling style of his opponent, Muggle and wizard alike. Going along with this, it shows that he was respectful and fair, choosing to wield a sword instead of magic against Muggle combatants out of a sense of fair play as magic would be a most decidedly unbalanced weapon in a duel against a simple sword. In addition to showing his sense of fairness, his deference to the duelling style of opponent also shows a need to challenge himself, proving his worth and courage, which became one of the signature traits of his House at Hogwarts. haha shoutout to Fandom Wiki for the info haha bye
